Health secretary Sajid Javid tests positive for Covid Health secretary Sajid Javid has tested positive for Covid-19, despite having received both vaccination jabs. In a video message on his Twitter feed, the health secretary said that his symptoms were “very mild” and he was self-isolating at...

That's exactly what Dominic Cummings was doing throughout his time in no 10 and why so many senior civil servants have now been replaced by political appointees. (That's gone well hasn't it). I think your Yes Minister analogies are probably best left in the 80's where you got them from. It's...

Undoubtedly. It's just that to me 60,000 seems a remarkable number of deaths to be attributed to lockdown. As beorhthelm stated 'almost as many non-covid deaths as covid deaths occured' as a result of lockdown, I'm intrigued to know where these figures come from and how they breakdown.

Nearly 60,000 died as a result of lockdown ? I have heard this stated a few times by various people but would be interested to see the source for these figures. Thanks

Just seen some details on the news. Have to say, I am concerned by this, because unless I've misunderstood, we are now discussing how to lift restrictions at the point where the deaths and infections are, at best, levelling out (although I believe the last few days figures always tend to be low...

It wouldn't surprise me if it was Sunak. I do think that Rishi resigning any time soon would be a good move for him politically. He has had a meteoric rise from new boy in the office (he only became an MP 5 years ago FFS) to number 2, based on the fact that he was happy to accept Cumming's...

I think the general consensus now is that the leak came from one of the senior ministers who wanted a lockdown and wanted to ensure Johnson didn't back down and U-turn again after Friday's meeting where the lockdown was agreed. This was why the announcement was rushed forward from Monday to...

To be fair, there is an argument whether they should be closing shops full stop, but surely if you decide that only essential items are sold then only essential items should be sold. If one shop isn't allowed to open because they sell clothes, deemed 'not essential' then other shops should also...

You're happy to see the multinational supermarkets put specialist shops out of business, I'm not. I believe that if you introduce rules, those same rules should apply to all businesses, you don't. I wouldn't dream of calling your views Absolutely ridiculous, but as this little exchange has...

Then campaign to make card shops an exception to the 'essentials rule' the same as food and drink. I wouldn't myself, but it's all about opinions

No, it really isn't. If you force non-essential businesses such as card shops, clothes shops, cookware shops etc, to close, why would you then let the multinational Supermarkets, who are open to sell food and drink, take the whole of the market from the shops you forcibly close, pushing them...

You wanted Johnson and co to get a big majority at the last election so that the opposition in parliament had no power to stop them doing exactly what they wanted, and that is exactly what you have got. I agree completely that it is typical of the selfish ####s in this country not to take...

Agree with all of that. Everything we do seems be reactive rather than as a result of any medium or long term planning. Given that, I'd like to see stricter measures immediately, until we know what this current growth in cases means in terms of hospitalisations and deaths (maybe another 2-4...
