There was a snippet on Radio 4 the other day stating 22% of deaths are WITH Covid (ie not primary cause) the rest were directly due to COVID. Probably good enough reason to suggest some restrictions are necessary whilst the wave passes.

They are looking to avoid the total collapse of the National Health Service. Have you not been listening AT ALL? Until we get to a point where we can manage the virus and keep the NHS on it’s free et without lockdowns then we are going to be stuck in this cycle. It’s really not that difficult.
We are taking two weeks here. Without adequate support it’s manageable, then everyone who wants a jab gets one, then you introduce vaccine passports. What other option is there? Do nothing and see what happens in hospitals to the underpaid over worked health service already on their knees? Yeah...

Omicron isn't the only variant doing the rounds though, is it. A big Delta wave on the back of waning immunity was also happening, so hopefully this push for boosters can put an end to it. I just wish Johnson could have got the message with a bit more notice for those involved with the push but...
I feel like nobody is talking about the fact that in South Africa it's currently early summer, not approaching mid winter, and what affect this might have on cases/hospitalisations. Has anyone seen anything along these lines?
