@Herr Tubthumper you have a most peculiar taste in meals! Pardon the intrusion into your personal life but I’ve deduced from your posts on here over the years that you partially reside in a similar quarter to myself in central Hove. With that in mind what on earth do you eat when over here?! I don’t believe any of the Italian cafes in George St or Church Rd are serving up such delights.

Sincerely and with warm wishes

Is this a competition to eat the weirdest thing?. I'm sure they are all delicious mind you..

Just heading to a restaurant in San Lorenzo so I'll see if they serve any oddities

I used to live in that area but moved 11 years ago. But to try and answer your question I always liked liver as a kid but redeveloped an interest in offal a a number of years ago after visiting St John and then Barcelona. I know it’s popular in Rome so hit a few places I’d read about. It’s something I try when it’s available.

But you are correct, it’s not a common commodity in Hove and numerous other cities Berlin included.

I have also been to a few other “regular” Roman places for pasta dishes…both old and modern. It’s a fantastic food city.

I should also add there’s an element of exploration as there were some items from Rome which I have never tried before.

I also like to “see” countries and cities through their food, drink and restaurant culture which is also contributed to my Roma diet.

All good just landed back home.

That looks like an excellent cheese board. But were there any biscuits? I don’t like it when they just give you some stale baguette to go with it
It was very good. It came with bread but i didn’t eat any…I rarely eat the bread or biscuits in a restaurant as I’m usually running out of space . Home it’s a different matter.

We're off to Rome and Naples next w/e, and have just looked through this thread. Not looking for offal focused, because my partner doesn't eat meat, but wondered if there were any highlight restaurants you'd recommend. Might also prod @Yes Chef on this too. FWIW, we're staying in Trastevere so will probably eat there the most particularly evenings but also fitting a fair bit in so don't be coy about places elsewhere.

We stayed at an AirBnb for the Roma game and the host gave us this list of good local places in Trastevere, the couple we tried were good and they highly recommended Suppli, but we didn't make it there. Meccanismo was a good bar with a good apertivo deal ( not sure if it was veggie).

I was actually with a vegetarian myself. I’d suggest this place, a contemporary dining room with modern takes on dishes. I understand the chef is a rising star in the new wave of Rome restaurants, consequently it gets booked up very quickly. We could not get an evening spot even though I was booking a couple of weeks in advance; had to settle for lunch and that was tricky as well.

This is a lovely wine bar which does meats and cheeses https://www.instagram.com/thereal_ilgoccetto?igsh=bmwwaWMxdjl6YTlw

Excellent. Suppli is already on the list, but good to hear it reinforced.

Amazing. Santo Palato looks suitably hip, and that wine list at Goccetto has some keenly-priced gems on it. Would I be right in thinking that you can eat the equivalent of a meal there?

Yes you could eat a meal there…in a small plates bread, charcuterie and cheese manner if you get my drift. I really liked it. It gets busy around 7pm so aim for some time before.
