Infringes the human rights of the Scamdemic believing dead & their families.

Everyone on Covid wards knows it, as they do that unvaccinated and morbidly obese is a combination filling the morgues.

Aye, parent works at PRH - says it would change the attitude of a decent number of anti vaxers if they got the stats daily

1.63m tests…..highest ever I believe. Positivity rate lower than yesterday at 5.4% (5.9%)

1.63m tests are the number of tests undertaken in the previous 24-hours, whereas the cases reported today could have been from tests a few days ago. 20k tests were positive from those tested today, so far...

Regardless, testing is increasing but that is almost certainly because more people are presenting themselves for testing. It's not like people were turned away previously.

From the DT…..Professor DoomandGloom not so downbeat today…….

Britain may be “better off” with omicron than it was with the delta variant, thanks to the booster programme, Prof Chris Whitty has suggested.

Giving evidence at the Health and Social Care Select Committee, the Chief Medical Officer for England said that vaccines appeared to be holding up well against omicron and said boosters may even be preventing transmissibility and infection.

Prof Whitty said that under a worst case scenario, Britain would see similar figures to the January wave, when the alpha strain was dominant.

But he said there could be a more hopeful outcome.

“It is possible that with a boost, we’re better off with omicron than we are with two vaccines with delta for severe disease,” he told MPs.

“I don’t think that’s likely for infection, but we honestly don’t know the range of possibilities is really quite wide. And that’s why it’s very difficult to make definitive views about where the NHS is going to end up in the next few weeks.”

So with lower positivity rate you think cases are going down?

Remember this is doubling every two days currently and to present symptoms takes a few days so a couple of doublings will already be baked in on these numbers currently (plus those reinfected who are not included in these numbers).

If you think I think that then you’re a bigger fool than most of your posts indicate.

So why make a point of the fact positivity was lower for one day, that's masking the seriousness of the very grim situation we are in.

Nightclubs closed in Wales after Boxing Day, including New Year's Eve. Strong advice for people having Christmas Day together to do so outdoors. Mark Drakeford and Nicola Sturgeon are once again leading the pandemic whilst sorry Boris is bumbling along with his head in the sand.

Equally, why post every single piece of deeply negative reporting or data you can find ? Sorry, thought this was a discussion thread, not the Crodo ‘counter to the good news’ thread. It’s not ‘masking’ anything, just trying to keep some perspective and balance (ie positivity hasn’t moved materially - it’s not just ‘one day’) whilst there are so many gleefully predicting the end of the world at every opportunity.

Wow, that's absolutely profound given who those quotes are from. Realistically, the chief scientific advisors have to play a pessimistic card as if they came out and optimistically said "yeah, nothing to worry about this Omicron thing, it's milder than a cold" and got it wrong then the ramifications would be severe in terms of people not taking things seriously.

But for that kind of optimism coming from the understandably dour Whitty is hugely encouraging.

It’s more than doubling every day….so that’s well over another week of potential mixing, hugging and whatnot in the busiest party week of the year. Presumably would cost them too many votes to do it now…….

I was really quite surprised……..doesn’t really align to what he said at the press conference yesterday. Obviously that was a clear message to the public to be careful (which makes sense) that had to be delivered but agree, it’s very encouraging.

The strong guidance from now is to keep social contacts to an absolute minimum and if you absolutely have to socialise then do so outdoors, vaccines, social distancing and fresh air are our friends against Omicron in that order. Legally enforceable restrictions like Wales are now ordering need some time to allow businesses to get ready for the new measures which I expect will be in place for some time.
