Problem is, will he get much game time with them? Ake went to them for £40m and doesn't appear to play that often. Be interesting to see how many games he actually starts next season.

Sidwell doesn’t seem to have been bothered by spending 90% of the time on the bench for league games when he went to Chelsea. Big wage packet trumps playing football for so many nearly elite footballers. Hard to believe for fans like me.

Absolutely baffled by the total rewrite of history that he was no good in the Euros. What are people watching? Yeah he didn't have a good final but other than that him and Rice were excellent and a big part of why our defence was so solid.

Textbook Man City this, blow the best part of £50m on a player they don't need just so nobody else can have him. What a competitive division we have.

The thing is, that even if they are not playing the big games, they are training and kicking a ball around all week for fat wages.

Excellent signing for City IMO.

And also for Forest, Fulham, Bournemouth, Villa and possibly Southampton.

Given some of the angst on here from a few, Albion too

Agree with you on both points. Would’ve been easy to pick Grealish or Foden alongside Rice, but Phillips in the CDM position gave the flair players and wingbacks a much better platform. And people say that Southgate has a pro Villa bias.

As for City, they’re just pissing me off now. FFP was supposed to stop clubs overspending and going bust, but it should also prevent one club from hoarding all the best talent in the world. They’ve won 4 of the last 5 titles and are now looking like spending another 150m this summer - and no doubt increasing their eye-watering 350m per year wage bill. The EPL has become like the SPL in terms of competitiveness and excitement. I wish the Super League clubs had ****ed off last summer so that the rest of us can have our game back from the oil-rich owners, even if it did mean the level wasn’t quite the same.

Nah Phillips wants to play for England, won’t do that under Southgate if he’s a Brighton player
