Just read on the BBC website that police are looking into a link with Tobin and the Bible John murders in Glasgow in the 60s. I first came across this name after reading one of Ian Rankin's novels.

So, macabre as it may seem - can I urge anyone who hasn't read any Ian Rankin that you really are missing out on something here.

Without doubt the best dysfunctional detective ever created in John Rebus. Ken Stott was made for the part. But - the books are so so well written and really get under the skin of Edinburgh life.

BBC new series, Rebus, 18 May.

Set in Edinburgh, the six-part series reimagines John Rebus as a younger Detective Sergeant (played by Richard Rankin) drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality. Rebus finds himself torn between protecting his brother and enforcing the law to bring Michael to justice. This epic series explores family, morality and class through an emotionally-charged story, set against the Scottish landmarks that Rankin’s readers know so well.
