Mod: Please play the ball, not the man. Thanks.
Is this a new low bar in moderation?...
On the contrary, it is you that does not seem understand the nature of what is happening in Gaza nor events and conditions over the past 75 years have led to up this to war - and it is you that is posting hate engendered comments like ‘most Muslim folk want Jews eliminated’ - you have no foundation for such a sweeping, stereotypical statement.
I understand fully.... thanks

Still in Brighton
I expect as soon as someone has irrefutable evidence that the IDF has wilfully targeted Aid Workers..... you know, facts etc....
It seems it's confirmed as a drone attack and the cars attacked had clear markings on their roofs (sp?) as aid workers. Also confirmed as first vehicle attacked, injured were moved to second vehicle, which was then attacked and then they were moved to the third vehicle, which was again.... attacked. Doesn't appear a one off slip of the trigger finger...

as a result of attack on World Central Kitchen, they have withdrawn. three individual drones attacked the vehicles, separately, after information of the inital attack had been passed back to IDF. that is no accident. clearly they were getting in the way of starving the people of Gaza.

is this really what Isreal wants to be remembered for? utter madness.

Other aid charities have also withdrawn from Gaza as they say they can no longer operate safely after World Central Kitchen was ‘repeatedly targeted by drones’. With UNRWA barred from delivering food aid to Northern Gaza (after Israel accused a dozen workers of having an ’involvement’ with the Hamas massacre), 200 aid workers now killed, Israel restricting aid coming into Gaza and roads destroyed from bombardments, half the population of Gaza is teetering on the edge of catastrophic hunger. “Famine is now projected and imminent in the North Gaza and Gaza Governorates and is expected to become manifest during the projection period from mid-March 2024 to May 2024,"

Under the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the laws of war: "To the fullest extent of the means available to it, the occupying power (Israel) has the duty of ensuring the food and medical supplies of the population”. However …Israel has “blamed the United Nations for any delivery issues, saying limitations on the quantity and pace of aid are dependent on the capacity of the U.N. and other agencies.”

How can anyone still dispute that Netanyahu is weaponising hunger against the people of Gaza in his campaign to destroy Hamas?

But the IDF are hardly known for telling the truth. Time the countries who have had citizens murdered in this attack take the same action Israel does when their citizens are murdered - bomb the IDF.

Oh dear, bomb the most efficient and experienced military machine, probably in the world..... even the US would think very carefully before attacking the IDF.

Really ? This whole thing started with a few dudes flying in on motorised paragliders - seemingly bypassing all intelligence services

And they just bombed 3 cars with clear markings on the roof showing they were an aid agency, which seems neither efficient nor intelligent. Unless you were doing it deliberately because of who they were helping then it was very efficient.

So efficient that they have killed babies, children, women, aid workers, doctors, nurses and even Israeli hostages  There are a few places reserved in hell and they are for Putin, Hamas, Netanyahu and every member of the IDF. May they all die long painful deaths.

1) Oct 7th attacks were a low tech guerilla style attack against mostly unarmed civilians... historically, in warfare, this type of operation can have minor local success.

2) Of course, with Israel being a democratic nation, any proven deliberate malpractice on the part of their military, will be investigated and addressed... those making the decision on that event, will be held accountable.... there is a long history of IDF individuals and units being held to account, it's a matter of record.... nobody wants civilian deaths, mistakes can happen.

Not to mention that after the first "mistake" they made they then made the same "mistake" two more times. Itchy beard time.

As main supplier of war machinery to Israel (70%+ since 2013) they shouldn't have to think for very long.

Let me think - would I prefer the genocide the IDF are currently committing against innocent Gaza civilians, or on the other hand the genocide of the murderous IDF ? Difficult one .... on reflection I think the world would be a better place without the IDF and with a free Palestinian state. So the IDF get it.

So I was right, you are publicly, on an open forum, casually advocating genocide,.. I'm glad you cleared that up.... [Noted]

Time to turn off the taps to Israel if they’re killing British citizens
I'm fully on board with punitive sanctions against Israel for the atrocities it continues to unleash on Gaza - but it would be a huge stain on our nation's character if we for months turned a blind eye to the slaughter of tens of thousands of innocents, only to be finally prodded into reaction by the tragic killing of one or two of our own people.

I entirely see where you're coming from and do agree, however it does IMO provide a clear "line in the sand" to allow us to start to take that action. We should, as you suggest, have started some time ago, but for whatever reason did not do so. This marks something new and I believe would be something that most of the public would agree on as being an appropriate response.

After all, if any other nation on earth took out multiple British aid workers in such a manner you can bet we would be imposing sanctions on them faster than you can say "pariah".

If anyone honestly thinks the IDF are going to carry out an impartial investigation on the deaths of 7 aid workers, they are living in cloud cuckoo land. Netanyahu has already said,

“Unfortunately, in the last day there was a tragic case of our forces unintentionally hitting innocent people in the Gaza Strip,"

I would suggest that in the last 6 months there is a ‘tragic case’ of the IDF “unintentionally” killing:

  • 13,000 children - more children than in 4 years of world conflict (UNICEF) - 27 dead from starvation/dehydration (SaveTheChildren)
  • 9,000 Women
  • 140 journalists and media staff
  • 224 Humanitarian aid workers (inc more than 175 UN staff)
  • 484 Doctors, nurses and other health workers

Even now, after a recent change of policy for humanitarian ceasefires, the Biden administration is pressing Congress to approve a plan to sell $18 billion worth of F-15 fighter jets to Israel, and recently approved an arms package including 2,000-pound bombs, which can inflict damage to people up to 1,000 feet (300 metres) away. The UK/US having repeatedly vetoed calls for a ceasefire until a few weeks ago, are directly complicit in a quarter of a million civilians now facing starvation with half the population of Gaza (1.1 million) facing a catastrophic food crisis... If Netanyahu goes ahead with the ground offensive on Rafah armed with the weapons and ordinance supplied by the US and UK, with over half the population trapped in that small corner of the enclave, the human cost will be immeasurable.

So yes, the IDF will ‘investigate’ the deaths of 7 international aid workers ‘thoroughly’ , Governments in the West and Australia will express outrage, condemning these and other deaths, the UN Security Council will pass resolutions condemning breaches of International Law and the ICJ will promise to prosecute if war crimes have been committed but unless limited arms sanctions are immediately imposed on Israel, (which is unlikely to happen as Israel is a military ally in the ME and neither the US or the UK have an interest in imposing sanctions (as the guardian story below points out), the ”unintentional” killing will continue until Netanyahu says the job is done - Human lives have little currency in this war of attrition.
