I used to go with a mate who used to drive over then. This game he had to leave about 5 minutes from the end as he had a party to go to that night in Pompey. We walked down Goldstone Lane just as the mass bulk of the City fans were leaving. I found my self walking next to a giant of a man, 6 foot between the eyes.
He nudged me and said “ All this ****ing way, for **** all”

I just answered “Aye” in my best Mancunian accent, and swerved as far away from him as I could.

We beat them 4-1 a couple of years earlier (in the league). I was there - one of my better Albion experiences!

That was on the way to the final. Marvellous goal by Gerry Ryan. Picked up the ball in his own half and just seem to stroll past the entire City team!!
