Worthing
At the start of the season I placed an each-way bet on the Albion to win League One with 888 Sport. Obviously the bet has won, and 888 Sport owe me over £500!

When I placed the bet I registered my Debit Card with them, and they were happy to take my stake from it. So far, exactly the same as other betting websites.

Now that I have won, I logged on to withdraw my money. All the other betting websites I have used simply credit the card registered with the amount requested. Simple!

888 Sport now require that I "verify" my account by sending JPG scans of:
My Driving Licence
My Debit Card (front and back)

As I can't get my money unless I supply the above, I have reluctantly complied and sent the above via their "secure" website.

888 Sport are based in Gibraltar, so someone in their offices now has sufficient information to steal my identity!

If I had known this, I would have placed the bet elsewhere, so if anyone else is contemplating using 888 Sport, don't, unless you are happy to comply with their requests.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I had to do the same with Bwin. I had money in there whch i wanted to withdraw and couldnt.

Also be very wary of these sites as i used Bwin to put money in the casino to try use a bonus and they do it all in euros and they trade the money at different rates for when you put money in and out. its shocking

most betting companies are based in gibraltar, its standard practice for these european bookmakers so i wouldnt worry about your identity

I had to do the same with Stan James (send my documents) when I had a decent win on the horses (I think it was about £2500). It was a bit of a nightmare but they paid out eventually. Tell them you are worried about id theft, and ask them if you can blank out parts of your documents.

I work in anti fraud and when these betting companies ask for a copy of the card front and back they should ask that the middle 6 digits of the card number and the 3digit security code (CVV) be covered.

It does seem to be a pain but there is so much theft of card information, they have to try to ensure that you are the genuine card holder.
The fact that they are based in Gibralter is for tax reasons. We are based in Malta for similar reasons.

I had to do this when I opened my first betting account (Ladbrokes) when I just turned 18. I can remember being VERY excited about having to scan in my debit card and provisional driving license. :lolol: How times have changed. If anyone asks for my debit card or provisional license now, I get very annoyed.

Use Betfair, better odds and no such nonsense.

KYC (know your customer) is standard practice at Betfair too.

Personally am still doing 99pc of my betting there but the days of unmissable value are largely gone. Unless you are turning over the sort of sums that get your commission down to 3pc or less, you'll often effectively get the same prices, and sometimes better ones, by hunting around and using oddschecker. The advantage with Betfair is that its much easier to lay off.
Ladbrokes can be worth a look too because they are not on Oddschecker and so when they are top price about something, it tends to hang around a little longer.

I only ever bet in shops; don't own any credit cards anyway. I like to know exactly where I stand with money.

Digressing a bit, I often get 'friend' requests from fit birds in revealing clothes I don't even know on facebook and their quiet profile looks very dodgy - some kind of decoy? ???

Betfair can be fantastic for outsiders and hold up horses
