I always remember some particularly good fire training when the trainer highlighted that in a supermarket (or some such) that if the fire alarm goes off most people just stand around and wait to see what other people do. ie they are sheep.

Seems a bit odd to me. I look at each individual situation and assess it individually, rather than just "refuse" it based on groupthink. Otherwise you're just prejudiced before you even start? Anyway, you have many chips on your shoulder.
