Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

I keep seeing this graph and general stance. However, what it doesn't mention is numbers. Yes as a percentage less people are now dying of Covid than flu, but that is based on the number of people who test positive for Covid and die, against those that die from flu. Its all about base numbers...

Me neither, but my 6.30am visit to Asda says otherwise for the staff and general public!

To answer my own question (yes, I know talking to yourself was once considered a sign of madness), Superdrug have now apparently undercut Boots on the price of LFT’s...

And so it begins, the price of “affordable” testing for the general public. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-60486323 Will be interesting to see how the price will change over time, and how many they actually sell.

Read it and weep if you are someone who is vulnerable or are caring for or living with someone who is. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1056229/COVID-19_Response_-_Living_with_COVID-19.pdf So the government are removing free...

Thank you. I know we have spoken previously with regards where we are with regards Covid and was particularly touched by your “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes”analogy. As I said earlier, hopefully this is a misunderstanding, either by me or the journalist from the BBC who wrote the article...

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

This was how it was covered on the BBC earlier... Instead, beyond social care staff, only those deemed at-risk will get access to tests in the community - and only then if they have symptoms. The at-risk group has not been defined, but is likely to be the most vulnerable who would benefit from...

Have I read this right, free tests have been scrapped for the clinically vulnerable, unless they have symptoms? Someone please tell me I have misunderstood.

So, will that change now or will bosses still have the same mindset?

Apologies, bit of an over generalisation. I hope you're right about people changing their mentalities, employees and employers alike.

So you've never worked in an office where people come in with "a bit of a cold" and promptly spend the next few days coughing and sneezing over people.. or the infamous "man flu" behaviour! People are selfish, especially when they're not going to get paid!

My wife has to have a Covid swab taken, in the hospital car park, 2 days before each of her treatments, so at least someone is taking things seriously still.

I think, as with most Government announcements it’s policy by soundbite. The general rule now appears to be a) leak a proposal b) wait for people with real knowledge to point out the flaws in the proposal c) release plan (complete with tweaks as “advised” by those in the know) and claim this...

Some lovely graphs there, which shows the risk for the general population, clearly ignoring and not answering my original question, is Covid no less dangerous to the clinically extremely vulnerable then flu. You know, the people who for the best part of the last two years have been told to stay...

Thanks for reply. Couple of points though. The repetition of “fully vaccinated” doesn’t help or apply to those who are fully vaccinated, yet have next to no idea whether the vaccine has any efficacy for their condition or for those who are unable to have the vaccine for medical reasons...

A genuine question, is COVID now "just like flu" to the extremely vulnerable, or does additional allowance need to be made for them? i.e. LFT testing for visitors!

To be a pedant, I think its the number of people who die that is the key metric. Clearly the numbers should follow admission and ICU stays in a downward trend if they've got Omicron right.
