Yeah, Patreon is a platform where, typically, people support creators with regular payments.
It's not really different to what we are doing here, but Xenforo has it all built-in to move users to different groups etc, which means I don't have to monitor it and make manual changes.
I took the...
Yes. Ish.
Paypal take 45p from that £5 for processing the payment, and some VAT then goes off to HMRC, But other than those unavoidable deductions, the money goes straight to NSC.
I'm just bringing this back from Community Announcements for a short time, as someone has just contacted me to say they had no idea this was a thing.
Yes, this is a thing.
As per the opening post, no-one has to do this, and people have a lot of important things to spend their hard-earned money...
Yeah, that's really shit.
Firstly, guests will always have more ads, and I make no apology for that. There should even be a banner at the top of the page that says if you register most of them go away, which they do.
But I'd been trialling some sort of Google "auto ads" thing, but hadn't...
Thanks for asking.
Errm, slowly - I'll make sure I take a look this week.
edit: I just went to a look before I submitted this post and it looks like I set up a page some time back, but never used it, which is quite embarrassing on several levels!
It's this, apparently...
At the moment, previously-used usernames aren't reserved, so can be used by someone else.
Be aware of that If you think "I'll change my name for a joke and then change it back next week"...
Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't.
Ad rates have fallen and adblocker usage has risen sharply. If an ad isn't viewed, it doesn't pay.
Ads for guests are always going to be more intrusive, but I've never hidden that. The top-of-page message used to be long-winded about NSC is being...
Very much all of this. No-one is any more nor any less a member of this community unless they actively decide they don't want to be.
As I think I mentioned at the beginning of this thread, I genuinely don't know how much an average regular user passively contributes to the site in ad revenue...
There's no way of doing that currently, but it would be a useful addition if it could.
So I searched and someone else had asked the same thing and someone coded up a solution. So, *IF* the badge remains, I'll look to do just that.
Yours was 28 so I upped it to 30 as I thought you just wanted to add an apostrophe.
I've upped it again to 40 so, a week from now, you can change it again if you want!
Sorry - been out for a bit.
It will be exactly that.
When I’m back at my laptop I’ll see if o can change that - it will be a parameter somewhere I’m sure.
