    [Albion] Dan Ashworth joins Newcastle

Looking ahead to next season (and assuming we’re in the Premier League), it’s frightening how difficult it will be to compete. Newcastle will, unfortunately, almost certainly stay up….which leaves maybe only 5 teams at or around our level. We should be confident of being ahead of the 3 promoted...

    [Albion] Dan Ashworth joins Newcastle

I don't read it like that - DA has a notice period in his contract (which, by the way, protects him if the club wanted to get rid of him). He (and his future employer) want that notice period waived, and there's a negotiation going on regarding the terms of that waiver.

    [Albion] Dan Ashworth joins Newcastle

I guess the thing here is that it is VERY public. Newcastle can't appoint DA until they either pay up, or wait until the end of his notice period (I read somewhere that he could have been on a 12 month rolling contract). BHA will have got good legal advice on this, and I think the issue of...

Interesting contrast - Edwards happily working his notice at Liverpool - Ashworth turfed out unceremoniously on "gardening leave". Obviously Edwards hasn't (yet) declared himself for any other club, but he seems like the type of person who would fit in at BHA.

I also think the club's statement is BHA's way of saying to the football world "don't deal with Ashworth for some time". I can imagine the content of that announcement has been noted in board rooms around the country, and if Ashworth tries to start talking to any other club (eg: about future...

    [Albion] Dan Ashworth joins Newcastle

It's a really interestingly-worded statement from the club. Complete guess-work, but this doesn't sound like an amicable parting. I think Tony feels very let down. The quid pro quo is holding Ashworth to his notice period (which MUST be longer than three months - using the word "extended" is...

Exactly! Just the sort of thing Naylor should be turfing up. Sounds like the club think pretty highly of David Weir, so if Ashworth is off, probably not the end of the world....plus, promoting within the ranks has all sorts of benefits.

Me too - but I don't think Newcastle are looking for the same type of player as us. Their immediate concern is to bring in decent premier league experience to keep them up. They don't need Ashworth to do that.....what they DO need him (or someone like him) to do is help change the whole...

    [Albion] Dan Ashworth joins Newcastle

Surely we're not SERIOUSLY thinking that Lewis Dunk - club captain, talisman, local lad made good, etc - would be allowed to leave part-way through the season, to go to a "relegation rival"????
