That would be just silly.
If they wanted to do that sort of thing, they might have given it to charity, or diverted it on bloc to Albion in te Community. But the club was only reacting to what the player wanted to do.
There’s a difference between selling someone who wanted to go, where you are quite rightly taking in to account the wishes of the employee, and going to work for them.
Having said that, I am not massively blaming Dan Ashworth. He will have had to weigh up the professional attraction of starting...
They can make it as difficult for him/them as possible, even go to court if they had any evidence that he was doing anything.
But if nothing else, they can prevent him just going there and getting on with it.
Doubt it very much. He will be kept very much at arm’s length but will be expected to contribute IF, and only IF, there is an important question that he alone will know the answer to.

in everyday life, I think there's a bit of difference between deciding whether to buy something in a supermarket because of where it came from and whether to uproot your whole family to move 300 miles away to work for people where there might be questions about the provenance of the finance...
Agreed. I was thinking that he would only be interested in the same people everybody else is anyway, BUT he would have the knowledge about recent recruits who are still under the radar that others would be less aware of.
But the would still be ours to sell rather than his(Newcastle's) to buy...
I'm disappointed that he is going, but it's not the end of the world.
Firstly he is now on gardening leave, so won't be anywhere near the Albion set-up unless we need him to be.
Secondly, he will not be able to go to Newcastle until the gardening leave is over, which could well be some time...
