Ooh, good shout! They are certainly seen in that area apparently. Thanks. I've always loved nature and wildlife, but only recently got more seriously into birdwatching, so very much on a steep learning curve with the less common species.

Not the greatest angle, but it's all I could get. Whitethroat? On the Monsal Trail, Derbyshire. Last week. Further down, by the river at Chee Dale, I saw my first ever Dippers and Mandarin Ducks. Plenty of Grey Wagtails down there too. Wildlife heaven down in that Limestone Gorge!

Yep, first time seeing them for me. I've only ever seen Cormorants before. It was also my first time seeing Eider Ducks, Kitiwakes, Guillemots, Razor Bills and Puffins too!

Wasdale, Lake District, last week. Meadow Pipit, rather than Tree Pipit?

No, the Nikon P950 from a boat. Farne Islands are still shut to visitors for now, to help prevent further spread of Avian Flu.

They've got to live too

Seeing more Cormorants than I can shake a stick at down where I live, it was nice to finally get some Shags.....Ooh er Missus! Farne Islands. Again, the other week.

Thanks. Aside from location, the Pipits are very hard to tell apart for me. I have seen Meadow Pipits before, but only assuming that on their location.

Anyone able to help here? I'm thinking Tree Pipit. Taken at Wark Forest, Northumberland, a few days before Newcastle away.

Thanks. I'm struglling on a lot of little bird id's. Not only the differences between male and females on some species, but also winter vs breeding plummage. Hence why I gave the month I took those shots in.

Good Friday. Brede Valley. I may have stumbled upon a valuable bit of field craft here for future reference. It's like one of those magic eye thingies. Can you see what it is?

Only the once, but as they're want to do, it disappeared up it's own backside

I see you're up in Cumbria. Not quite so far up, but I was in The Peak District in late Summer. Managed to get a pic of a Wheatear, which I don't think I've seen down here before (I'm a bit of a newbie for getting more into birdwatching). Apologies, as think I may have posted it on the other...

Always amazes me how busy Pied Wagtails are in freezing cold weather flitting around tarmac roads and paths picking out tiny insects. I can even imagine there's any food there for them, but there must be.

It's easy to see how this thread can overlap with the photography thread, so I'll keep it brief. I eventually went for a Nikon p950, purely for the reach really as I'm only really into wildlife photography. I accept I'm never going to match a full DSLR set up for image quality, but I'm very...

It never ceases to amaze me just how stunning even so called plain and common birds are. Starlings are a particular favourite of mine. At work we have a Robin visit our compost heaps while we we're working at them. Of course the red breast is gorgeous, but when you're close up the Olive green...
