Well, for me it's pretty simple. Let's look after our elders, those who were (potentially) in the trenches a long time ago giving us the opportunities we have now. We owe them that much.
I lost my grandparents at a young age, I would give everything to spend some time with them in their 80s/90s.
That's a terrible way to look at things. With that argument we should terminate every child we know that will be born disabled and with a projected short life span. We're better than that.
Why did the UK (having discovered the new strain in September) take until December to tell the rest of the world? Why did they continue international flights all over the place? It's been up to other countries to impose travel sanctions on UK.
I wonder why Trump doesn't come out and pillory the...
I'd suggest to not believe everything you read about China in Western media. I lost faith when I saw some of the BBC reporting in recent years, who should be the bastions for impartiality!
I think what you guys mean is they had a lockdown, a proper one by dictionary definition. They shut down public transport, schools, restricted movement etc. Then even in the worst of places these restrictions were lifted/reduced after a couple of months.
Draconian, yes. Tough, of course. It...
A number of contributory reasons. Off the top of my head;
1a) They have been shut to tourism since end of March, even residents (non Chinese citizens) who fled at the beginning of the outbreak have only started to come back recently.
1b) Even if you do qualify for a visa exemption, there are a...
Right, and to compound things I can't see many tourists wanting to visit the UK anytime soon, which is a big issue giving that inbound tourism accounts for over 10% of GDP.
Chicken and egg scenario really, we talk about trying to get the economy going and opening things up, but you can't do it...
Probably because the UK infection numbers are out of control, simple as that. The only way you can prevent it would be if the careers lived in-house with the residents.
You're potentially part of the problem.
I was listening to a discussion on vaccines in a webinar this morning, one of the key epidemiolists in Australia was explaining that if the vaccine is 60% effective, and 100% of people took it, that would get to herd immunity. But, he then said, since a...
I'm not suggestion a permanent lockdown, but a managed border control process that stops us importing cases which is counter productive to the measures in place. This is what a lot of other countries are doing that have managed this pandemic well.
And severe claustrophobia from wearing a face...
The UK needs to get hold of it's border control. What is the point in bringing in all of these new measures and suppressing the economy if every day the country is importing the virus back in?
The government needs to mandate that a negative test (within a defined recency) is provided before...
