Why is it you only follow and support the scientist who predict doom and gloom and constantly call for lockdowns like the independent sage group. You've never once posted and championed following the recommendations of scientists with a more optimistic outlook.
There is plenty of more positive...
You can't look at the data coming out of South Africa and just think that they are having milder symptoms because they've got a younger age demographic.
South Africa has a lower life expectancy by almost 20 years, so of course will have a younger median age of population. However the things...
A few days ago it was said that 76% of people in hospital in South Africa were for incidental covid according to tweets mentioned in these two posts.

There were similar stories about the delta variant sending more children to hospital in the USA too but there didn't seem to be any report about rises in deaths.
We don't know what the health demographic of the children being admitted is, are they living with co-morbidity? Also if...
It was mentioned in a subsequent tweet from this post by Bozza a few days ago.

76% of hospitalisations are for other conditions and find out they have covid on...
It seems more likely that they are people who have been admitted for another reason and then find out they have asymptomatic covid when they are tested in hospital on admission. Rather than catching it while in hospital. If there is that much transmission in hospital I’d go as far as saying...
The average age of the population is lower in South Africa because life expectancy is a lot lower there than here. That is in part down to our health care being so much better, which in turn means our population are likely to be healthier than someone of the same age in SA.
There are far too...
No-one should be blaming hospitals. What is being reported at the moment is that a significant number of people only tested positive for covid as part of their admission to/during a hospital stay for something else. Yes these people had covid, probably asymptomatic at the time of testing, so...
No drop in testing yet - https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/testing
Although there seems to have been a lot of different end of term dates across the country. Two of mine broke up on Wednesday, youngest finished today, some friends kids finished last week. Will be interesting to see what...
No drop in testing as far as reported numbers are concerned. 1,038,954 tests carried out yesterday according to the official government website. About 17% higher than the day before and slightly higher than the rolling 7 day average.
If you read the article you would see the operations are being cancelled because the ICU (which is one of the biggest in Europe) is full and they cannot operate on patients who would need to be in ICU post-op. There is absolutely nothing about leaving 1000 beds empty in the article at all.
Yes the current wave is going upwards so I suppose it may not be 100% fair to compare to the cases etc in Feb as it was coming down. It's always going to be difficult to compare two separate dates or periods because things change as we go on, more testing, different restrictions, vaccine effect...
I believe a vast majority of the people in hospital are those who aren't fully vaccinated and those that have been fully vaccinated are almost all suffering with co-morbidity.
I posted a graph yesterday that showed that despite the rise in hospitalisations the number needing critical care and...
Although hospitalisations are on the rise, albeit at a lot slower rate than previous rises in cases, the number of people who are seriously ill and needing ventilation is staying rather low and not rising at anywhere near the same rate. Evidence is still pointing to the cases largely being in...
BBC reported yesterday that of the people hospitalised with Delta variant in the previous 7 days up to the 14th June, only 10% had been double jabbed, 17% had had a single jab more than 21 days ago. So the vast majority being hospitalised haven’t been vaccinated.
It wasn’t reported how many of...
That's simply not true.
The latest available data for hospitalisations is May 27th which shows there were 870 people in hospital with Covid, 7 days before that the figure was 909. So the number in hospital is continuing to fall. Yes the number of people going into hospital has risen week on...
According to this, which is part of a thread Kinky Gerbils shared earlier, the people who have been hospitalised after both doses have underlying health conditions. Also another tweet in the thread says less people being hospitalised are needing critical care due to the age of those in hospital...
They don’t suggest with confidence at all, the very first word of point 9 is IF. They don’t know with certainty what will happen but merely saying what may happen if certain things about this variant are true.
It’s amazing how quiet you’ve been on this thread over the last couple of months...
