[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

As the thread has popped up again. Two quick things. - Adrian Chiles documentary and book about moderating his drinking has come up a few times. Last week he and John Robins (also a BBC 5 Live presenter) had this chat on The Guardian about their experiences and the different approaches to...

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

Good stuff. I'm now just over 3 years and feel the same. Absolutely spot on re: AF beers which have improved in range/taste/availability massively over the last few years and still something i have from time to time. Although i now rely on either Coke Zero, or citrus/soda water type...

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

I'm still dry after giving up after a final pint of cider at the Amex in the pre season friendly in July 2018. Not a drop since. So coming up to three years now. Have flirted with AF beers throughout but drink in evenings is now mostly diet fanta, coke zero or tea. Can't remember what its like...

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

PS: for those who saw that memorable Adrian Chiles doc and want to know how he's getting on. TLDR - he didn't give up booze but did cut down dramatically then he wrote a couple of follow ups just before xmas - there's also useful advice there for those who are planning on Dry January for the...

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

I'm 54 and i've just passed 2 years alcohol free. The first day and the second day were the hardest and its still hard but you gradually cope. I can sit through a football match with a cup of tea, a christmas, a holiday, and various trips to the pub until i no longer started to even think about...

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

Better move to Denmark and do Dry January there because then you'd be fine! as 0.5% drinks there are legally labelled "alcohol free". As i've said earlier in the thread - labelling in the UK is confusing. I'm teetotal and drink the odd 0.5% beer from time to time. And fruit juices and other...

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

Yep. Of course But for those that are changing or want to change their drinking habits and switch to AF beers (I did at first and have effectively stopped drinking permanently) - then just wanted to make the point that the guidelines can be unhelpful, there is naturally confusion about 0.5% or...

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

They aren't but as i understand it they are all 0.5% or under - so the alcohol volume is negligible (legally in the UK they can be called "de-alcoholised" and in other countries can be legally labelled as "alcohol free". The UK has different regulations - thus the confusion. Normal everyday...

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

I gave up drinking in August 2018. My weight remained pretty steady until i started running regularly (about 40K + a week) in April/May 2019. I've since lost 3 stone although the weight loss was flat over xmas ( a lot of turkey and cake i guess)

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

He said this in a piece 12 months after the doc ... “I have had some (but only some) success in moderating my intake “ https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/aug/01/most-people-drink-moderation-what-heavy-drinkers-can-learn-adrian-chiles

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

I'm about 450 days AF now. I was similar to you. I found it easier to just stop rather than moderate and after the first few months - which were hard - you settle into a normality, the cravings fade, and for me the expected pinch points - pubs, football, christmas, parties, holidays - come and...

[Drinking] Alcoholic/like a beer or two too much?

I’ve not tried the spirits but I’m pretty keen on AF beer. Brewdog Nanny State and Adnams Ghost Ship being the best. The Harvey’s Ones are impressive too and in a few pubs now. Most I can do without (the bland lagers - Heineken , becks, Budweiser etc ) including St Peters “without” which is like...
