Still seems expensive though. Haven't been to a beer festival in the UK for about 8 years. But I do go to around 25-30 festivals a year in the Netherlands, always paying with tokens, and I rarely come anywhere close to spending that much. And I have been known to knock back a few on occasion...
As compared to most of the global beer companies, Heineken generally has a good track record of keeping its hands off the brewing process with companies it buys into, so long as the company concerned keeps making money for them.
What they bring to Beavertown is a virtually unrivalled global...
If anyone here is partial to the occasional Duvel, it's now available on tap in the UK for the first time:

Now, when the Duvel Tripel Hop Citra is on tap, that will be something...
Bit of a deception there methinks. "The world’s best lager is brewed in Crawley."
Erm, no it isn't. The brand is owned by, commissioned by and imported by a Crawley-based company. But it's brewed at the Schweiger brewery - which is not in Sussex, but in Bavaria, just outside Munich.
There goes another independent.
Anchor Brewing, America's (and according to your definition, possibly the world's) original craft brewer, has just been sold to Japanese giant Sapporo:

Which reminds me, anyone with a free few days around the weekend after next (25th/26th) could do worse than get themselves to the Netherlands for the 2015 Borefts Beer Festival.
It's one of the top 2 or 3 (alongside Alvinne, possibly Copenhagen) beer festivals in Europe. BrewDog, Redchurch...
I was in California and Arizona in April and was impressed by how pretty much every gas station shop had banks of fridges crammed with craft beer. But the US has a much bigger potential market, and so craft brewers there can afford to take more risks in terms of scaling up, than certainly here...
Ironically, I would much rather drink Dutch beer and eat Belgian cheese than the other way around.
The Dutch haven't really grasped the idea that cheese can be anything other than hard and yellow - the Belgians have. The Belgian brewers (some honourable exceptions apart of course - such as...
I think it might take more than 5 years before the giants get too worried (apart from in the US, possibly). One statistic for you: there are currently around 330 breweries and gypsy brewers in the Netherlands, and a new one opening every week on average. And yet one brewer still produces more...
Very little to do with "craft beer", of course, but it's always good to keep half an eye on what the corporate giants are up to:

A move probably sparked by the fact that SABMiller recently tried to propose joining up with Heineken, but Heineken told...
Exactly. Which is precisely why they used the beard yeast. They wanted to brew with wild yeast, and tried looking in numerous locations. It just happened that the perfect strain was eventually found growing literally right under the brewer's own nose.
My local brewpub Van Moll has just made a collaboration brew with and at Thornbridge, now available in selected craft beer bars in the UK and in NL - don't know if any will make it to Sussex, mind you.
Trekdrop - an 8%ish imperial stout containing 'dropjes' (Dutch salted liquorice sweets), and...
It's a lot to do with how the WBA is organised. It isn't a recognition of the best beer on the market, based on everything being made. The brewers have to enter the beers themselves and the winning selection is based only on that small sample. I haven't seen the complete list of entries, but for...
I wouldn't put the blonde very high up on your 'must-try' list. It's a typical midweight Belgian blond ale. i.e. inoffensive and drinkable, but a bit characterless and air-headed.
Best beer in the world? As John Lennon would have said, it's not even the best beer in The Beatles.
Not sure which one was you, but I overheard someone (presumably you) mention Spanish Dave in the breakfast room on Saturday. I resisted the temptation to yell out 'Seagulls!' as my Mrs who was there with me would have twatted me...
Spoke to some of you over breakfast yesterday, and at the...
