I forecast that in March. the Daily Excess will be publishing its annual prediction of a 'scorchio barbecue summer with 4 months of non-stop sunshine and record high temperatures.' The summer will then prove to be bang average.

Weather forecasts and conditions are increasingly being sensationalised and exaggerated. Moderately heavy rain is now deemed 'torrential'. Normal cold weather is now said to be 'sub-zero' or a 'Big Freeze'. Any thunderstorm is now described as 'violent'. Any spell of snow is portrayed as a...

Woken-up to a light dusting of snow down here in Somerset, but I doubt it will last; snow is forecast to turn to sleet later, once the temps nudge above freezing by mid-morning.

I remember that winter well; one of the coldest and snowiest ever. I was going out with a woman from Falmer village, and we went for a walk across the frozen pond!

Sadly, the Atlantic also cools us slightly compared to mainland Europe, in the summer, so it is rarely as hot here as in Paris or Berlin.

An easterly wind would certainly be cold, but a genuine Beast from the East would need to be in January or February when Russia and Scandinavia are at their coldest; they are still cooling-down at the moment. Sure, we've had snow in December before, but usually, our 'best' winters (for snow...

BBC 4-week forecast, and the Met Office's one-month forecast, both predicting average or slightly-above-average temperatures right through to late February, and therefore no snow except occasionally on the highest Scottish mountains. For those who do want some snow, the only tiny sliver of...

Yes, BBC TV forecast at lunchtime said that the areas most likely to have heavy and persistent snow early next week were the extreme south-east - Kent and East Anglia. Further West will probably be scattered snow showers or flurries, rather than it 'flumping' down!

Well, the Express does have form! Every autumn, it predicts a bitterly-cold winter with 4 months of killer Siberian gales and severe blizzards, and then every March, it predicts a record-breaking 'barbecue summer' with 4-months of 'scorchio' weather! However, for the last few days, the Met...

Not too disappointed, as the majority of any snow we get - increasingly rare, I know, as winters overall are getting milder - is in January and February. And the 'Beast from the East' a couple of years ago was actually right at the start of March. The best scenario would be a strong...
