This thread should be renamed the Harry Allt thread. Once experienced, never forgotten. He was a teacher from a bygone era. Yes he was extremely violent, but he was OUR extremely violent history teacher at Varndean. Nobody will ever take those memories away from us.

The same teacher was rumoured (before I joined Varndean) to have dangled a boy over the quad by his ankles, from the upper floor. He put the boy's life in danger. There are more episodes that I did witness.

I remember one lesson in which a lad was flicking ink with his fountain pen. Harry Allt spotted him, and in a flash of dangerously insane history teacher, had grabbed him, turned him upside down, mopped up the ink with his Cucurella locks, and stuck him head first in the bin. You don't get that...

It may be that someone (no names) in the Portuguese Primeira Liga began the touchline antics around 20 years ago, in an effort to let the fans know he had passion. Other managers in that league, not wishing to be accused of lacking passion, followed suit, and Bob's your uncle.
