My point is that it's a great away day because you can't get to Loftus Road (especially if you're coming from Sussex) without going via an area in London with quality pubs (Chiswick/Hammersmith/Notting Hill, etc), especially on a potentially sunny Saturday in August.

Strategically located, in that you've got the Dove in Hammersmith less than 3 miles away. The river pubs of Chiswick if you're coming via Clapham Junction. And as you mention easy to leave on the central line and be anywhere. - That's a very nice away game in my view! I like the Defector Weld...
